A second night, spent in a 3-star hotel in Wadi Musa beside Petra's gate. That converts a rushed afternoon at the site into a full day from opening time, which is the only way the Monastery's 850 steps become realistic. It also adds Mount Nebo, Madaba, the Dana Biosphere Reserve and Shobak Castle on the drive south.

Q: Are both nights included in the price?

Yes — the hotel in Wadi Musa with breakfast, and the Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum with dinner and breakfast. Rooms are quoted for up to three people and camp tents for up to four, so a solo traveller pays a single-occupancy supplement, subject to availability.

Q: Is the vehicle private?

On the itinerary featured here, yes — a private, modern air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver for all three days. That matters more on a three-day trip than a one-day one, because you spend a great deal of the itinerary in it.

Q: What is still not included?

Site entry fees at Petra (50 JOD) and Wadi Rum (5 JOD), local guides at the sites, the Dead Sea resort beach pass and lunch (about $40 cash), other meals, tips and travel insurance. Budget roughly $120 per person in on-site costs across the three days.

Q: Is three days enough for Jordan?

Is the Third Day Worth Twice the Price?

What you get for the extra night, and who genuinely does not need it.

The three-day itinerary costs roughly twice the two-day loop, and the honest answer to why is not “an extra day”. It is an extra night in the right place.

Sleeping in Wadi Musa changes Petra

On the two-day tour you arrive at Petra in the early afternoon after three hours on the Desert Highway, and you leave when the light goes. On the three-day tour you sleep in Wadi Musa, five minutes from the gate, and walk in when the site opens. That single change turns a good visit into a complete one — and it is the only way the Monastery, 850 rock-cut steps above the valley floor, stops being a thing you read about on the way home.

The road south becomes part of the trip

Day tours use the Desert Highway because it is fast. Three-day itineraries can afford the King’s Highway, which is slower and one of the best drives in the Middle East: Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have seen the promised land; Madaba and its Byzantine mosaic map; the Dana Biosphere Reserve escarpment; and Shobak Castle, a Crusader fort on a hill. These are short stops rather than full visits, but they turn a transfer into a day.

A 3-star hotel in Wadi Musa with breakfast, and a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum with dinner and breakfast. Rooms and tents are quoted for up to three and four people respectively, so solo travellers pay a single supplement — worth checking before you compare headline prices.

Who should not book it

If you have exactly two days, the two-day loop covers all three destinations properly and is the most-reviewed itinerary in the niche for good reason. If Petra alone is the draw and you are short on time, a private day trip does it from $84. The third day is for people whose one trip to Jordan this is.
